vulpine137 @ 2:56pm: Wednesday 2, Tentacle Boogaloo

Busy day of non work. Talked to both siblioids, one about who gets what stuff, and the other about yeah...we're dividing up Mom's stuff, and she's still alive. It's not like she's going to magically get better and move out of assisted living. You don't like how I'm handling Mom's stuff, come on down, move it to storage yourself, pay for it yourself, and then you can deal with this again when Mom passes. Otherwise STFU, and deal. Shockingly, the one I'm annoyed with isn't the usual one who drives me up a wall and makes me want to kick heads. I'm almost paranoid enough to believe this is a grand conspiracy. Almost.

Went and visited Mom, and verified the Verizon yabbos fixed her phone. Mom was in a better mood. We talked, took a walk around her building. Well I walked, she sat in her chair and made commentary. Tried to talk her into joining the Bingo crowd after my visit...no dice. Oh well. Still was a pretty good visit.

Mood is better than this morning. No big change, just less...care I guess. Less things to deal with. Coming to the end of the having to take care of things. I'm actually thinking ahead to things besides Mom foo, which is a change. Of course it's turning into the season of 'Hot' here in Texas, which means mostly thinking ahead to October...and the season of 'Not so Hot'. Oh well, at least I have A/C. And books. So many books. Maybe I'll take a bookcation, lock down the internet and spend days in my room reading my booky friends. (not that I have much PTO, but I could always take unpaid time off).

That's about it for now, all things considered it's better. Lets hope it stays that way *crosses tentacles*

I'm not sure which sentence of this amazingly verbose ad is the most depressing/hilarious.

vulpine137 @ 11:13am: Work from home...or not

Having a day, had a lot of trouble getting out of bed this morning. Slept like crap last night, then had dreams that I really didn't want to get out of. (Huzzah for Innsmouth Dreams). Got up, got showered and dressed, picked up packages at the apt office and came to work.

Not much else. Going to visit Mom this afternoon. Hopefully this goes well. Also hopefully Verizon gets their shit together and Mom has a working phone today. Did get her electric scheduled to cancel. I'm really getting tired of calling customer service people...I hate talking on the phone, and I hate bad phone scripts. Shut up, Let me tell you what I need, go do it. On the other hand, I tend to be wound up and frustrated already when I get to a humanoid, so it's not completely their fault I'm in the mood to kill already.

Ok, calling this a post and posting it. Write more later. Ciao.

kylecassidy @ 8:41am: I'm leaving, on a jet plane
I'm headed back to North Dakota where I'll be spending time with some of the fabulous academics who make up the North Dakota Man Camp Project, we'll be doing oral histories, interviews and photographs of people living in temporary work force housing springing up around the Bakken Oil Boom -- truckers, roughnecks, engineers, and all the people who support them -- carpenters, welders, pipe fitters. It was a really amazing experience when I went in February. Looking forward to seeing another face of that state this time. We'll be in Western NoDak around Williston and I think south maybe as far as Killdeer.

Here's a post from the last time I was there which contains beautiful photos of a snow covered landscape.

If you want to follow along, I'll be updating the blog as wireless allows (who knows when that'll be) but also I'll be tweeding with the hashtag #OilCampsND

Here's me in NoDak during our last trip in February. I'm packing lighter this time.

Amazing how the women of color are not being portrayed excessively derogatorily, though Tam Tam woman does seem to have suffered a wardrobe malfunction. Is that a pasty?

Even if they are cigarette ads, they're still lovely, aren't they? These are available on the Duke (connection to product?) University digital archive. I with they listed the year(s), but I would guess 1880s/1890s? I'm guessing these were some sort of trading cards.
vulpine137 @ 8:38pm: Work frustrations

I have a boss who fails at communication, repeatedly. As in, he mentions in passing that he needs me to work in the office tomorrow to cover for him again. Not to me, but to another coworker, who happens to mention it in passing. Dear Cthulhu, when your rise...please eat him first. Or smite him, or drop a heavy rock on him. *shakes head* So yeah, work from home day is pushed back to Thursday. Not a huge deal, nothing was scheduled for tomorrow. But still, argh. Also haven't heard a peep from my agnate sibling about when he was planning to pick up the tables he wants from Mom's old place. Again, not a big deal...just frustration. Oh well. I'll call Goodwill tomorrow and see about scheduling a pickup, and get that over with.

The todo list from hell is pretty slimmed down. 4 Mom related things left to do in the next 10 days. Then after that, I'm going to just try to go with the flow, day by day.

Positive stuff, I had a metric ton of stuff waiting for me in the mail box, including stuff from the HPLFF a few weeks ago I got as a Kickstarter supporter, a book and a dvd I've ordered, and a bunch of Mom's forwarded mail. Including stuff I need to knock out one of the Mom related TODO list. These are good things. I also have packages in the apartment office, I'll snag them before work tomorrow.

That's about it for tonight. Going to go play with the ferret in a bit, and try to get to bed earlier than last night. Have fun hominids, and I'll ramble more tomorrow.

logiphage, posting in libertarianism @ 12:07pm: Economics in one.. Graphic

Who has the only gun, has the only bag.

This graphic was inspired by randomdiversion. It also explains why socialism is an ephemeral state. When those without capital do get the gun, which is rare, the result is always the gun holder is the new bag holder. Socialism in history is merely an intermediate stage between another progressive/fascist state under new ownership.
vulpine137 @ 11:09am: Tuesday

Not a good morning, sad dreams and a general desire to not get out of bed. Got to work late. Not too concerned about being late though, not like it's anything new for me to be late. Mood is about the same as yesterday, with the slight mood bump of working from home tomorrow. Kind of makes tonight a pseudo Friday. *sigh*

Not much else going on. Frustrations with Verizon over the lack of phone service at Mom's new place. Customer service is not my friend right now. Got a tech coming back out there tomorrow. Maybe they'll fix it this time.

That's all for today, really got nothing of note to talk about besides me being blue. Maybe I'll have more later.

vulpine137 @ 8:52pm: And Monday ends...

Meh day lead to getting a cheesesteak for dinner...and almost dying of starvation in traffic getting there. Then went to the store for a couple of things, then home. Going to bed soon, well going to book soon, in bed. When in doubt, hide in a book. Preferably with tentacles and or gillslits. See you all tomorrow.
